Note his breath deals fire or necrotic damage
A century ago, a warrior priest swore to his dying god that he would not give ground against the aberrant monsters that had come to devour his people. He would never surrender, he would fight on against the monsters. And so he fought until he was impaled to a cliff by a terrible monster of flowing steel and spectral claws.
He died that day in the hopes that others might live.
His broken corpse was recovered by the dusty mummy lord Tekummu and taken to the Temple of Sacred Flame. Enough of him was left for the undead dragon to work with. First, his heart, eyes, brain, and lungs were extracted and hidden, replaced by gems inscribed with sacred words, then his corpse fitted back together with metal hooks, and wrapped parchment leather. Prayers where written on the bandages and undead dragon drew forth a wisp of fire from the Sacred Flame and put it in a lamp, he placed the lamp in the priests chest where his heart had been. Finally, the dragon invoked his spirit from the Astral Sea and at last the warrior priest arose, changed. His living name sacrificed on the the altar in exchange for a pale shadow of his former existence.
He journeyed out into the world to continue the fight, but there were none left worthy to do battle for his kinsmen were all dead.
In the days that followed he watched as his entire race was driven past the brink of extinction. The reliquary containing his gods lifesblood was lost in a desperate attempt at resurrection by the last living priests of Io, and as far as he knew the only dragonborn to survive the cataclysm were the twisted mutants of Acamar and the depraved cultists of Blackmoon City. Having missed the great exodus underground during the time he had been dead. The priest retreated from the world and at Tekummu’s request, returned to guard the Temple of the Sacred Flame, taking the name Riven.
For the past hundred years, the very fabric of the world has frayed, without the watchful gaze of Io to hold things together. The natural laws broke down and more monsters slipped through the cracks in Time. All hope seemed lost. Until now…
